Buy and Install a New ELD and Harness
Fleet drivers are typically assigned an ELD by their corporate or regional office. Independent or owner-operator retail drivers can purchase an ELD device from a retail location such as Pilot.
To register a new Transflo-branded or Geotab-branded device, see Get an ELD, Start Transflo HOS, Register and Go!
We recommend the Geotab GO-9 (same as Transflo T9). The Geotab GO-9 ELD is a small form-factor vehicle tracking device that plugs directly into your vehicle diagnostic port.
Highlights:
- Easy to install with no antenna or wire-splicing required.
- Operates on 4G/LTE cellular bands.
- Includes an updated GPS module with enhanced location data accuracy.
- Order processing time is typically between 3 to 5 business days, plus shipping time.
Transflo is an official Geotab partner. All new genuine OEM Geotab devices are branded Transflo or Geotab on its face plate.
When purchasing an ELD, fleet and retail customers typically have one of the following four (4) options:
You are in this group if options 2, 3, or 4 do not apply to you and you want to purchase a brand new device or had some issue with your old device and want to swap it out with a new one.
-
A new 9-pin harness (HRN-GS09K2) is available to replace your existing 9-pin harness.
-
An available new 16-pin harness (HRN-GS16K2) is also available.
-
Both are estimated at $50.00 from most retailers.
If you have a 2014 or newer Volvo truck, your new ELD requires harness combo HRN-CM24Y1 and HRN-CE10A2.
New Geotab 4G (GO-9) replacement devices using a standard 16-pin harness are NOT compatible with 2014 or newer Volvo trucks. When replacing a previously installed device with a new 4G device, combo harnesses HRN-CM24Y1 (+) HRN-CE10A2 must be installed to mitigate a potential thermal issue.
WARNING! Failure to purchase and install the correct harness in your Volvo may result in damage to the device or vehicle.
If you have a 2006-2018 Mack truck, your new ELD requires harness combo HRN-CM24Y1 and HRN-CK10K2.
New Geotab 4G (GO-9) replacement devices using a standard 16-pin harness are not compatible with 2006 and newer Mack trucks. When replacing a previously installed device with a new 4G device, combo harnesses HRN-CM24Y1 and HRN-CK10K2 must be installed to mitigate a potential thermal issue.
WARNING! Failure to purchase and install the correct harness in your Mack may result in damage to the device or vehicle.
If you have a 2019 or newer Mack truck, your new ELD requires harness combo HRN-CM24Y1 and HRN-CE10A2.
New Geotab 4G (GO-9) replacement devices using a standard 16-pin harness are not compatible with 2006 and newer Mack trucks. When replacing a previously installed device with a new 4G device, combo harnesses HRN-CM24Y1 and HRN-CE10A2 must be installed to mitigate a potential thermal issue.
WARNING! Failure to purchase and install the correct harness in your Mack may result in damage to the device or vehicle.
Note: When you purchase a new ELD, if Volvo/Mack options 2, 3, or 4 apply to you, make sure you get a bundle that includes the proper harness combination.

Fleets with 10, 20, or more registered drivers or trucks can contact your Transflo account representative, Sales, or Support. Review the specs and place your request directly with Transflo. When you order, have the following information ready:
-
Current (old) device serial number; we'll set you up with new ones.
-
VIN number (to validate harness type)
-
DOT number
Note: Your current ACH payment setup will remain the same (no changes).
-
-
After receiving your new device, go online and replace each old ELD in the Transflo Telematics portal. Complete the device swap instructions as explained in the following video (click the image to play the video or go to https://vimeo.com/631165994/a62b853bcb):
Tip: (Optional) As a fleet customer, your reporting automatically updates for any given unique vehicle before and after the device is swapped out; however, you can add your old device serial number in the comments section and the date if you prefer to simply have this data on record. The device swap is seamless so you will not lose IFTA reporting data or fuel tax information generated by the old number. In other words, it is not necessary to enter the old serial number (device ID) in the comments; it can be useful, but isn’t required.
-
After receiving your new device, if your old device was damaged, inoperable, defective, or 3G, complete a Device Termination Request form to submit a request to terminate your old device (you can enter one or more devices on the same form):
Transflo Device Termination Request Form
Tip: Support for the steps on this page is available at https://www.transflo.com/transflo-eld-support-center/.
(Required) Update Your Device ID in Transflo HOS: As a retail customer, you can purchase a new 4G ELD online or at a retail store location such as Pilot. If you use only the Transflo HOS app (and do not currently have a Transflo Mobile Plus app subscription) and you purchased your new ELD online or at a retail location, after you get your replacement device, you must complete all the steps in Update Your Device ID.
Important! You must submit a request to terminate your old devices or they will continue to be billed, even after the devices are replaced. Failure to contact us requesting device termination will result in additional non-refundable charges on your account. Once a device is terminated, it is rendered inoperable and cannot be activated for future use. No exceptions.
Early in 2022, all major wireless network carriers including AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint implemented a process known as 3G sunsetting or 3G end-of-life (EOL) to make room for faster 4G and 5G devices. Transflo launched an awareness and outreach campaign in March 2022 and would like to thank you for the overwhelming support to embrace new technologies and keep moving forward.
Tip: Only Transflo T7 and G7 ELDs were subject to 3G sunsetting. These devices have serial numbers starting with G7. Transflo T9 ELDs (known as T-series ELDs) are already 4G-compliant and do not need to be replaced as part of 3G sunsetting.

In heavy duty and class 8 trucks, installation is typically done with a harness instead of directly plugging into the OBDII port. A Y-harness replaces the original diagnostic port, and safely moves the device under the dashboard. Although not as easy as the plug-n-play of the past, most ELD installations today support one of the following options:
-
Connect to the diagnostic port.
-
Connect to the diagnostic port using a harness in the case of Deutsch connectors.
-
Connect to the RP1226 port (using a special cable).
-
Connect directly into the fuse box (typical with Volvo and Mack trucks).
-
-
In passenger vehicles and pickup trucks, you can plug your ELD directly into your vehicle OBDII port. Most class 8 trucks don’t have an OBDII port with the exception of Volvo and Mack trucks, but you still can’t install an ELD using that port in those makes.
-
Older 16-pin connectors are rare in heavy duty trucks; only Volvo and Mack use them. When installing a GO9/T9, you cannot use a 16-pin harness connector due to possible thermal malfunctions. Instead, completely different harnesses are available for Volvo and Mack. No longer plug-and-play, these new harnesses are wired directly into the fuse box.
WARNING! When installing a GO9/T9, you cannot use a 16-pin harness connector due to possible thermal malfunctions.
-
Overall, use of zip ties to secure the device to the connector on the harness is strongly recommended to prevent any movement of the device while driving the truck.

Many experts in the industry believe older devices were much more simple. We had plug-and-play 6-pin, 9-pin, and 16-pin harnesses no longer available today. Today, those 6-pin, 9-pin, 16-pin connections are for passenger vehicles, van, and light-duty trucks. We have 14-pin (RP1226) harnesses and the specific harnesses for Volvo and Mack. Mack has two (2) different types depending on model year.
