Set a Maximum PC Distance Per Day
As an owner-operator or fleet supervisor, you can limit the distance drivers can travel for a personal conveyance (PC) exemption entry in their HOS logs. (You cannot automatically apply Personal Conveyance for all drivers. Drivers must individually apply Personal Conveyance based on their specific circumstances.)
-
Log in to the Transflo Telematics web portal with the same credentials you use to log in to your existing Transflo Geotab applications.
-
In the left navigation menu, expand People, and then click Users & Drivers.
-
Select the user (typically a driver) and then click HOS Settings.
-
Set a mileage limit in the Maximum personal conveyance distance per day field.
Example: 50 miles
-
Click Save.
-
Observe the following special scenarios:
-
If a driver remains in personal conveyance (PC) for multiple days, the only time PC will impact their logs is if the vehicle is moving beyond the PC limits set by the company. However, the primary cause of such a scenario might be that, after the vehicle exceeded the limits, the ELD also stopped communicating on the network.
-
If a driver remains on PC for several days and PC is activated and used beyond the company limits, the drive time will be reduced. Any personal conveyance edits are not retroactive.
-

Note: Geotab functionality in the Geotab Drive app, Transflo HOS app, and Transflo Mobile+ app is expected to change in early 2025. Drivers in the USA can no longer automatically exit Personal Conveyance (PC) when they reach their preset maximum PC distance. Instead, a new system log is created for administrators to track drivers in their fleets who exceed their expected PC use in a day. Instead of automatically switching out of PC and into DRIVE when reaching the limit, the driver will get an alert message reminding them to switch out of PC mode or to continue using PC for as long as they legitimately need.
-
The automatic switch from PC to DRIVE was convenient for some drivers and fleets; however, all ELD providers are required to make these compliance changes to prevent ELDs from auto-switching from PC, OFF, and other status modes to DRIVE.
-
This future change will impact only US drivers and rule sets. The Canadian functionality remains the same. The maximum PC limit in Canada is 75.0 km. Under Canadian rule sets, the HOS app will continue to automatically remove the driver from PC status after the PC limit is reached.
-
The options to enable or disable PC for a driver remain unchanged.
